I still haven’t finished mulching the vegetable garden!
Instead we’ve painted over half of our roadside post and rail fence. Just as well too! Next week (hopefully) we’ll collect, in a stock truck, 224 trees to plant along the roadside and about 15,000 (!) trees to plant on our hillside. I’ll plant the roadside, Habitat Restoration Services will plant the hillside.
Yesterday I was going to finish mulching the garden, but it started to rain. By the time it stopped, I’d moved the onions from where they were hanging in the shed to dry, trimmed the tops and bottoms and put them in a bag to hang inside. I’d also opened the 8 Austrian oil seed pumpkins, removed their seeds, washed them and put them in the oven to dry. They’ll be tasty on their own or a nice addition to our sourdough bread.
Together with two of our neighbours I’m starting a garden group. Once a month we’ll go to the garden of someone in the group and spend a couple of hours working there. The next month it’ll be the turn of someone else. The Monday just past was my turn. We were going to finish my mulching, but the weather wasn’t cooperative.
Hopefully by the end of next week the mulching will be completed…
Here are some photos of the recent harvest –
