Yesterday, 29 Dec, Paul and I finished piling up the hay in the paddock. There’s more out in the paddock than up in the barn! It’s all covered with tarpaulins, so should keep pretty dry for the winter.
The horses are enjoying the hay already. There isn’t much grass left on their track, so I feed them a little hay once or twice a day. It’s so nice to just fork it over the fence to them.
We may have gained a new horse – Monty. He wandered up our driveway early one morning. He’s a standardbred, bigger than our other horses and incredibly gentle.
Paul was getting frustrated with the mint taking over the pathway into the garden shed so he cut it back. I made mint syrup with the cuttings. It’s delicious – good as a cold or hot drink. Let me know if you want the recipe.
The vegetable garden is growing quickly. The corn and peanuts are flowering. The beans and tomatoes are coming along slowly. The chilli peppers and watermelon are flowering in the glasshouse.
