Weeding and covering

On 6 March I made it out into the garden for a couple of hours.  First I trimmed back the pumpkin vines that were taking over the east end of the garden beds and climbing up the amaranth and corn plants.  Unfortunately I also managed to cut of a few nice looking Triamble pumpkins – and there aren’t many good sized ones on the vines!  Hopefully some of them will continue to grow as the vines had rooted as they grew along the ground.  There are several large Austrian oil seed pumpkins and a few decent sized butternut squash.

and after.

Once the pumpkins were tamed, I completed the weeding.  The compost pile is VERY tall now.

The last task was to harvest lemons.  I’m going to make a large batch of lemon cordial and Ben wants to make lemon curd.  The lemons are all big and juicy.  At least the cool, wet summer has been good for something!

Lovely lemons.

Yesterday, 7 March, Paul and I removed the cover from the raspberries and covered the grapes using the cherry/apricot covers.  We should have a good grape harvest.
