Manure and peastraw

Today Kathi and I spread manure sludge from my bins onto the areas that we cleared on Tuesday.  The liquid remaining in the bins was poured onto the rhubarb, asparagus, strawberries and artichokes.

Once we had manured, we covered the entire garden with a thick layer of peastraw.  We used 20 bales.

The garden certainly looks tidier than it did on Tuesday!  Now it’s all ready for the winter.

The last task for the day was to hang the popcorn to dry.  We opened all of the cobs and found that there were 6 beautiful, well-pollinated cobs and 7 cobs that were half pollinated.  These were hung by the husks next to the onions out in the shed.  The remainder of the cobs went into the compost.
