It’s been a busy few weeks, but the vegetable garden is finally ready for winter!!!! Better late than never! And it looks better than ever before with the fantastic paths and edges. It was well worth the wait.
28 July – Finished weeding main beds
29 July – Reran sprinklers on the main beds
30 July – Spread manure on the main beds – including liquid and slurry to garlic
31 July – Started putting peastraw on the main beds
1 Aug – Mowed edges inc. where manure bins were. Finished laying peastraw on the main beds.
2 Aug – Finished moving the usable compost from rubbish pile to bin – the rest has twitch all through it. Weeded the glasshouse.
3 Aug – Fagan moved the remains of the rubbish pile to the tree run and filled the manure bins with manure and water. They now live on the bark chip. I removed the tomato plants and weeded half of the tomato tunnel house.
4 Aug – Fagan and I finished weeding the tunnel houses and laid peastraw. Paul and the kids finished cutting the boards for the front of the compost bins.
5 Aug – Weeded most of the potato patch
6 Aug – Finished weeding the potato patch. Spread the dirt pile that Nicolas and Annick made from path and garden bed material and removed rocks from it. Dug the row of potatoes closest to the tunnel house – 6 plants yielded 15l potatoes (5-10kg). I left the last 3 rows (18 plants) as I don’t want that many potatoes inside! I think they’ll keep better in the garden even though some of them are starting to sprout.
7 Aug – Laid peastraw on the potato patch – I left the 3 rows of potatoes still in the garden uncovered. I will cover this area as I dig the rows.
