Tidying and harvesting

We’ve been on holiday for 2 weeks visiting Paul’s parents.  We had a great visit, but now it’s time to get back to the garden!!  I’m so out of practice writing here that I forgot to take any photos!!!

On Monday (5 May) I made the first cheese I’ve done since 12 November 2013.  We’ve been eating the ones I had ripening.  The latest goudas (lavender, chill and cumin seed) have been absolutely delicious! They were ready to eat in January, but a few extra months has served them very well.  They have a fantastic sharp flavour.  YUM!

It was time to remove the tomato plants from the tunnel houses.  They had grown like crazy while we were away, it was a real jungle in there.  There were a lot of tomatoes left on the plants, but these were mostly mouldy.  Now I have to deal with the twitch in the tunnel houses…

I’ve been harvesting some delicious things since we’ve been home:
the LAST zucchini
the LAST tomatoes
potatoes
cape gooseberries
silverbeet (swiss chard)
and cape gooseberries

I’ll have to cover the cape gooseberry plants soon so that they continue growing next year without frosting over winter. The plants have produced a large crop this year and we’d all like to eat them in large quantities again next year!
