It’s particularly amazing to watch a bean germinating and begin the journey upwards.  They start out with w relatively large seed that puts out a root, raises the remains of the seed out of the soil and sprouts it’s true leaves.  All the while sucking goodness from the seed until, eventually, these are shrivelled and fall off.
