Chilean guavas and grape cordial

Today I picked all of the Chilean guavas – 2 cups of berries. I have frozen these for use over winter. They are really good stewed and mixed with yogurt for breakfast.

I also picked all of the grapes from the stalks and turned them into grape cordial. I had 6kg of grapes, to which I added 600ml water. This was boiled until the grapes were split and soft. I drained the liquid from the pulp and ended up with 4.25l of juice. To this I added 2kg of sugar and heated until the sugar was dissolved. The final step was to pour the cordial into sterilised glass bottles. I ended up with 9.5 x 750ml bottles. Once the cordial has cooled, I will put this in the freezer.

On Sunday, I planted out 6 brussel sprout seedlings. At least I think they are brussel sprouts – they are some kind of brassica, only I didn’t label them or write down when I sowed the seeds – it was in early February.
