Company while weeding

I’ve been doing a little weeding (1-2 hours) each day for the last few days. We’re having a lovely spell of sunny autumn days that make it a pleasure to be out in the garden. So far, I’ve made it through 1.5 garden beds and 2 pathways – that includes covering the beds with a thick layer of peastraw. That sorrel is hard to get rid of! Too bad it tastes so good in salads…

Weeding would be quite a lonely job if it wasn’t for the company of the fantails who live in our back yard. They are incredibly friendly and seem to enjoy coming close for a look at what is going on. I’ve counted 11-12 of them at any one time. They are terribly difficult to photograph as they are always flitting about catching insects.
