Sheep manure

A great thing about living in a farming community is that there is a great supply of fertiliser close by. Several neighbours have recently had a huge vacuum cleaner suck all of the old sheep manure out from under their woolsheds. One neighbour called and offered me as much of the manure as I wanted. The texture of the manure is amazing, powdery and dry – very easy to shovel; and it smells great – not at all like fresh sheep poo! So, husband and I borrowed another neighbours trailer and headed over. Farmer neighbour let us use his tractor to load the truck and trailer, we unloaded it onto a large sheet of black plastic at home before repeating the process. Altogether, we took three truck and trailer loads – the final trailer load was for the owners of the trailer. It took about one hour to complete a single load. Then we covered it all with a blue tarpaulin so that it will stay dry and powdery until I am ready to cart it all to the vegetable garden and fruit trees.
