Manuring the garden beds

This morning I finished spreading old sheep manure on the empty garden beds. At this stage I decided to only spread it on the beds used for growing annuals. I’ll wait for the perennial crops (potatoes, strawberries, parsley, chives, Jerusalem artichokes, asparagus, rhubarb and yams) to die down before manuring those areas.

In the photos you can see the winter crops growing nicely – Bed 3 has swiss chard, brassicas (brussel sprouts, cauliflower, broccoli and cabbages), broad beans and leeks. Bed 2 has lettuce, carrots, parsnips, beetroot, more swiss chard, celery and cosmos.

Bed 3 looking west – brassicas, broad beans and leeks at this end; swiss chard in the middle.
Bed 3 looking east – brussel sprouts and a type of leafy onion at this end
Bed 2 looking west – lettuce and carrots at this end.
Bed 2 looking east – celery, swiss chard, cosmos, parsnips and beetroot at this end.
