I spent a long afternoon (4.5 hours!!) tying up the sprawling messes in Bed 4 (Jerusalem artichokes & asparagus) and the tunnel houses (tomatoes). Now I can walk down all of the garden paths and into the tunnel houses. The next task is to weed beds 4 & 5.

Next time I will tie the plants up sooner. Leaving it this late means that a lot of energy has been put into growing all of the laterals. There is a bit of fruit on some of these, but not a lot. The extra growth makes it difficult to find and tie up the main “branch” where most of the fruit is without damaging the “branch” and losing fruit from it. It’s also a LOT more work to do it when there are so many laterals to remove…
