Over the last couple of days I have cleaned up the pumpkin area and planted out most of the pumpkins 8 Hopi grey winter seedlings and 9 Austrian oil seed seedlings. Once the space was cleared, I dug several hands full of sheep manure into the soil and planted the pumpkin seedlings in clusters. These were well mulched, watered and covered to protect them from late frosts. There are still 2 butternut seedlings, but they will wait until the danger of frost has passed before needing to be planted.
A friend gave me 2 Sweet 100 tomato plants – I dug a couple of holes, mixed in a couple of hands full of sheep manure to each hole and planted them under cover of parsnip and silverbeet leaves to keep them safe from late frosts; the area was then well mulched with pea straw and watered.
Another friend gave me a large sack of strawberry plants. I cleared an area in one of the garden beds, dug in several hands full of old sheep manure and planted about 30 strawberry plants. These were then lightly mulched with pea straw and well watered.
