The weather has become wintery over the last week – snow and frosty mornings. But with the frosty mornings comes a glorious sunny day. Some days are so warm that I can work outside in a T-shirt if I’m out of the wind!
10 Aug – armed with a pair of loppers and the bottle of Vigilant gel, I went in search of gorse and broom. I managed to do everything along the stream banks in corner, middle corner and as far as the poplar trees in middle ridge in the 2 hours I had set aside for the task. Now I need another couple off hours to do the remainder of the stream length.
I haven’t picked this yet, but it was so beautiful with the morning dew on it that I had to take a photo.
11 Aug – Having watched a wax eye sitting in the feijoa bushes eating fruit on the tree, I decided that it was time to pick the remaining fruit myself. Normally I wait until they fall, as then they are ready for eating. But I wanted to beat the birds to the last few fruit. It is very late in the year to be picking feijoas!
I had a delicious dinner of lamb (butchered by us), brussel sprouts (so sweet when cooked soon after picking) and silver beet/swiss chard. The red leaves are so beautiful.
Bertie came to live with us in January. He has become very good friends with Kasper. They both love a cuddle and pat.
