I looked at the compost pile today and realised that it is going to take long time to break everything down.  There is a lot of branchy stuff in there – asparagus, Jerusalem artichokes, brassica stalks.  So I took the mower and catcher over, pulled it all out onto the grass and mowed it!  The pile is now much smaller, as is the material in there.  It should make lovely compost….
