I’ve finished mulching!

Hooray! I’ve completed mulching the garden and used 20 bales of peastraw.  I’m not sure why, but a freshly “peastrawed” garden looks complete and tidy to me.  See for yourself – what do you think?

Leeks, celery, beetroot, broad beans,
silverbeet, salad greens and potatoes

Yams, asparagus, various brassicas,
spinach, salad greens and strawberries

The next major vegetable garden project is to work on the paths; that’s after the minor projects of refilling the manure bins and fixing leaky pipe joints!  All of the rotted bark needs to be removed from the paths and put on the compost pile.  Then I’ll lay plastic pavers – maybe even a brick edge around the beds so that soil and peastraw don’t end up on the paths as easily.

Here’s a picture of the orchard with the vegetable garden in the background.

Vegetables from paradise indeed!
