Artichokes & Apples

26th – I dug up all but the largest 2 globe artichoke plants from around the fence line of the orchard paddock.  This gave me 4 large plants, 2 medium plants and 6 small plants.

Ready for planting…

27th – I planted the 12 artichokes plants in the area under black plastic outside the garden fence.  I cut a hole in the plastic for each plant.

In their new home…

28th – I picked the last apples of the year – the granny smiths.  I ended up with a basket of perfect apples, a bucket of apples that will be alright for cooking with immediately and half a bucket of rotten apples.  The rotten apples went straight to the compost.  I cored the 14 largest, perfect apples and put these in a bag in the freezer.  Another 8 medium sized apples went into the fridge.  Maria is having the remainder of the perfects and the cooking apples.

The last apples of the year.
