Late autumn harvesting

It’s May 10 and I STILL haven’t weeded the vegetable garden.  I have many excuses – school holidays so the children were home and we went away for 2 weeks.  Then there’s the time to pack and unpack for a holiday, not to mention catching up with everything that needs doing when you get back.  Also there’s the moving from one house to another because our house is still being repaired.  Not to mention playing cello – which has also taken a back seat.

Anyway, hopefully in the next few days a start will be made.

In the meantime, the garden is still producing.  I’ve been picking cape gooseberries (Physalis peruviana), quinces (from the neighbour), kale, the first of the Jerusalem artichokes (Helianthus tuberosus – Yum!), more globe artichokes (Cynara cardunculus), tomatoes, capsicum, feijoas (Acca sellowiana) and Chilean guavas (Ugni molinae).
