Garlic

The garlic has been hanging in the barn for a couple of months now. It has cured nicely, so today I took it down and prepared it for coming inside.

Before cleaning

This involved cutting each garlic head from the plait, trimming off the roots and rubbing off the outside, dirty papery layers.

Ready for storing and eating

Altogether, there are 115 heads of garlic. I have kept the 18 heads with the largest cloves aside for planting in winter. The other 97 will be eaten!

None of the heads are particularly large this year. Most of them have medium sized cloves that will be useable, some have tiny cloves that will not be used – they will probably be placed into oil so that I end up with garlic flavoured cooking oil.
